| PHIL KEEN - FIA GT3 - DUBAI |
Phil Keen took part in the last round of the FIA GT3 championship at dubai In the heat of the desert.Phil Keen drove along side Phil Quaife in this event and swopped the tech 9 porsche of Phil Hindley for a Damax run Ascari. The practice started slowly as I had to learn the track, Phil Quaife didn’t which helped as he was able to help me with the lines, and corners. This meant that the first session was more of a learning session were we ended up posting a time that put us 16th but with a lot more time to come. The second session saw a big improvement in the car as we worked with car to get it up to speed and saw an improvement up to 7th quickest with still more to come. Quaife put a good time In qualifying putting the car on 6th (3rd row) for the start of the first race which was a good effort considering we did not have the straight line performance of the other cars. My qualifying did not go to plan on the second lap I hit a curb a bit hard an the car jumped across the circuit putting me in to a slid that flat spotted the tyres, I kept it on the circuit but the damage was done the tyres and the time only good enough for 22nd on the grid. 11th row Quaife drove at the start of the race and by the end of the first lap was in third chasing down the leaders but the pace of the other cars in a straight line was too great an quaife could not find a way past. As the pit windowed opened Quaife led the race prior to making a pit stop to hand over to Keen who did all he could to fend off the other drivers. But eventually ended up in 6th. We both drove consistent times but we just did not have the power of the bigger cars in a straight line which made it very difficult to defend and over take. In the second we had our or work cut out starting from 22nd on the grid. We had a good start an stayed out of trouble making it up to 12th place when the window for the pits opened I handed over to Quaife, We had a really good pit stop and made some more places, Quaife then drove up to 6th and a safety came out after a accident at turn 7. This bunched the field up and allowed Quaife to catch the leaders an make a move for third on the penultimate lap but with car ahead also going for a move the two touched and Quaife spun out. He rejoined the race an finished 14th. We agreed at the start of the race that we just wanted to have a podium finish and Quaife drove a really good race and if I was in his shoes would have made the same move. We had a great weekend, Damax the team did a fantastic job and the car was great. I really enjoyed it. Phil Keen |
